With a down to earth and personable approach, Matthew collaborates closely with his clients to deliver a space that is not only beautiful, but fosters connection in the everyday and practicality for how you and your family live. Sourcing inspiration from contemporary coastal Australiana design, modern day mid-century inspired aesthetics and ultra high-end luxury architectural masterpieces, the studio encapsulates all of the above and more in both vision and delivery.
Working with clients in Melbourne and surrounds, Geelong and the Surf Coast and throughout the Sutherland Shire of Sydney, Matthew James is an award-winning boutique, independent residential interior design studio specialising in kitchen and bathroom design, and full home design for renovations or new builds.
When not working, Matt loves spending time with his young family (including wife Maddy, a two year old daughter and a baby boy due in October, plus Tank the sausage dog). With the flexibility of working remotely, the family steal away to their holiday home in Ocean Grove, spending as much time as possible on the beautiful Surf Coast in Victoria.
Originally an Architectural Building Designer, Matthew applied his drafting skills and construction knowledge across many areas including interior drafting, documentation and joinery design. With a keen eye for detail and a desire to think beyond prescribed creative limits, Matt found his passion for interiors and hasn’t looked back. The urge to push boundaries and freely create from a place of intuition and skill led Matt to founding a bespoke studio where he can openly harness imagination and express ideation beyond the norm.
