Brunswick House centres on the transformation of a compact early 1900s home, where the kitchen and bathroom were reworked to bring cohesion, warmth and a stronger sense of identity to the interior. Working within a highly constrained footprint, the design focused on turning fixed conditions into opportunities, balancing function with a more layered and expressive material language.

In the kitchen, existing architectural elements, including the chimney, walls, windows and doorways, were retained and reimagined as part of the design. The chimney, once a dominant and awkward feature, now anchors the space, integrated with surrounding joinery to create a cohesive focal point. Within the tight footprint, a curved island was carefully introduced, acting as both a functional workspace and a social centre, while maintaining clear circulation through the home.

Materiality plays a central role, with a rich, tactile palette of travertine, burl veneer, walnut-toned joinery, handcrafted zellige tiles and living brass finishes creating a sense of warmth, depth and individuality.

This language continues into the bathroom, where a highly constrained layout was reconfigured to accommodate a full suite of functions, including a concealed laundry. A curved shower wall becomes the defining move, resolving spatial and service challenges while softening the room. Bejmat tiles, travertine and burl joinery reinforce the layered, European-inspired palette, creating a space that feels both practical and atmospheric.

The result is a home that embraces its constraints, delivering spaces that are functional, expressive and deeply connected to everyday living.
