Malvern Residence centres on the transformation of an outdated kitchen within a 2000s rear extension, reworked to bring a stronger sense of cohesion and connection back to the home. While the existing layout was largely retained, the focus was on resolving the disconnect between the original architecture and the later addition, allowing the spaces to feel more unified and considered.

An existing pantry, located in an adjoining room, was brought into the kitchen through full-height joinery, allowing it to open up when in use and sit quietly concealed when not. This shift helps balance the overall design while supporting the rhythm of everyday life.

The kitchen itself is anchored by a central island, improving circulation between the living, dining and outdoor areas, while a deepened joinery bulkhead conceals the exposed staircase above, restoring clarity to the space.

Materiality is restrained, pairing travertine with timber joinery to create a soft, tactile palette that feels both grounded and refined. This language continues throughout the home, including a compact powder room formed from a former linen cupboard, where a Tiffany Quartzite vanity and microcement walls introduce a more sculptural, expressive moment.

The result is a home that feels cohesive and settled, shaped around gathering, routine and shared time, where everyday moments take on a quiet sense of comfort and ease.
