Northcote Residence centres on the reworking of two compact wet areas within a mid-century home, transforming a small family bathroom and ensuite into calm, tactile spaces that feel both functional and considered. Working within highly constrained footprints, the design focused on improving usability while introducing a greater sense of light, warmth and material depth.
Both spaces were carefully reconfigured to maximise efficiency, with skylights introduced to bring natural light into otherwise enclosed rooms, softening the overall experience and enhancing the perception of space. Planning was resolved to support everyday use, ensuring each element felt intuitive without compromising on comfort.
Materiality plays a central role, with a layered palette of Tundra stone, stone-look tiles, subtly varied subway tiles, timber-look vanities and brass tapware creating a warm, lived-in quality. These elements bring texture and softness to the spaces, balancing practicality with a more expressive, residential feel.
The result is a pair of bathrooms that feel calm and quietly refined; compact in scale, yet generous in experience, supporting the rhythms of daily life within a renewed family home.
